Tech Talk with Derek Meyer: Starting From Scratch – Surviving Your First Tech Job
May 14 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
So you landed your first tech job, now what?
Our Tech Talks often center around advice for getting into the industry, but this week we are shifting our focus to learn more about advocating for yourself once you’re there. This week we are joined by Derek Meyer, who will be sharing his advice for surviving your first tech job.
Topics covered will include:
Getting past the provisional period
Becoming a key player
How to get a raise
Before getting into the tech industry, Derek’s resume was almost exclusively sales experience. In 2018 he applied for a Junior SQL Developer position at a large energy company. To his surprise, he landed an interview without formal training or experience. With 3 weeks to prepare for his interview, he completed The Tech Academy’s program through the Database course and got the job! Now he joins us to share his experience and advice for surviving and thriving in your new career.
Join us virtually on May 7th at 1pm Pacific for networking, conversation and fun!
